In 2020, ENN Natural Gas completed its restructuring with ENN Energy. With a forward-looking industry strategy spanning the full natural gas value chain, we seized the opportunities created by market reform and are committed to becoming an intelligent ecosystem operator in the natural gas industry. Guided by our mission to create a modern energy system and improve quality of life, we align with China's dual-carbon goals and the current energy market to promote the green and low-carbon development of the natural gas value chain and contribute to the transformation of global energy production and consumption.

ENN Natural Gas Green Action 2030 roadmap

Primarily procure international natural gas resources, supplemented by domestic and managed LNG plants, and sell natural gas to city gas operators, energy groups, large industrial users, distributors, international oil and gas companies, utilities and energy traders.

● Clean fuels for company vehicles

Phase out diesel transport vehicles by 2025, reducing transport vehicle carbon emissions by 28.3%; apply zero-carbon fuels such as hydrogen and biofuels to transport vehicles by 2030.

● Improve efficiency and reduce emissions through digital tools

Continuously improve digital tools such as Yuntu Cloud and smart dispatching to optimize mileage, reduce empty running, improve operating efficiency and cut carbon emissions.

● Promote low-carbon operations among ecosystem partners

Make low-carbon transportation a core supplier qualification criterion after 2026.

Retail gas:

● Continue expanding unattended station applications to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from city gas operations.

● Continue exploring innovative technologies to improve natural gas efficiency and integrate hydrogen with city gas operations.

Wholesale gas:

● As one source-balancing option for retail gas, procure gas from upstream domestic suppliers and use our own and third-party transportation networks to supply customers and traders not covered by pipelines in our operating areas.

Methane management:

● Align with international standards and improve transparency.

Joined MGP in 2021, adopted best practices for identifying, monitoring and reporting methane emissions, and planned to disclose methane data in line with international standards from 2023 onward.

● Improve methane management systems and measures.

Integrate methane management into daily operations, deploy ongoing reduction measures, and gradually include methane control in performance assessments and compensation.

● Promote measurement-based technologies.

Achieve full coverage of city gas project sites with cloud-based methane measurement technology by the end of 2022 and improve methane data quality.

● Promote joint emissions reductions among ecosystem partners.

As a founding member of the China Oil and Gas Industry Methane Emissions Control Alliance, work with alliance partners to achieve methane control targets and encourage more ecosystem partners to reduce methane emissions through technological progress and more transparent data disclosure.

Integrated Energy:

● Continue increasing the share of renewable energy and optimize the energy supply mix.

● Explore integrated models combining natural gas and renewable energy.

● Continue exploring applications of new renewable energy sources such as hydrogen and geothermal energy.

Smart Home:

● Ensure safe gas use while using digital tools to improve household quality of life and help build green homes.

● Continue exploring digital technologies that improve the energy efficiency of household equipment.

● Continue enriching Smart Home offerings, activate existing customer value and deliver smarter, lower-carbon products.

Green homes:

● Understand household needs and use LoRa, IoT and big data technologies to support customers' pursuit of smart energy use, safety and a low-carbon lifestyle.

Infrastructure Operation, including the Zhoushan terminal, gaseous and liquid transmission and distribution pipelines, and gas storage facilities, provides users with natural gas unloading, transportation and storage services.

● Guided by the national direction of green development and low-carbon operations, use low-carbon technologies and customer needs to continuously advance low-carbon terminal construction.

Engineering construction:

● Provide full-lifecycle solutions for natural gas infrastructure, municipal works, new energy and digitalization, including technology, consulting, planning and design, equipment manufacturing and skid integration, project construction and digital delivery.

Engineering installation:

● Provide residential and commercial users with yard pipeline installation, equipment installation, indoor pipelines and facilities installation, and after-sales maintenance.

Low-carbon intelligent construction services:

● Build full-cycle low-carbon intelligent construction capabilities led by design. Integrate digital technologies, digital twins and digital operations with the low-carbon value chain to deliver low-carbon intelligent Integrated Energy solutions, construction solutions, digital-delivery solutions and end-to-end low-carbon intelligent commissioning solutions. Reshape the planning-construction-operations service model, establish physical factories connected through IoT and virtual factories based on digital twins, and enable low-carbon operations throughout the lifecycle.

Office energy efficiency:

Increase renewable energy use. Install distributed photovoltaic systems across our offices; by 2025, photovoltaic generation will account for 5% of office electricity consumption, while energy consumption per unit area will fall by 10%.

● Use energy-efficient lighting and air-conditioning.

● Operate paperless offices.

● Adopt green building standards for offices.

● Manage energy use intelligently.

Low-carbon travel:

● Replace 50% of company-owned office vehicles with new-energy vehicles by 2025.

Biodiversity conservation strategy

ENN Natural Gas conducts biodiversity assessments and conservation across all business scenarios and actively implements measures to protect the environment and biodiversity around our operations. We encourage member companies to promote, procure and use sustainable natural resources that have limited environmental impact and support biodiversity conservation. We also pursue biodiversity restoration and sustainable use of natural resources to build a systematic green industry, enabling our business to coexist harmoniously with nature and opening a new chapter for ENN's clean energy development.

Implementing conservation measures across all scenarios

ENN Natural Gas pays close attention to the environmental impacts of daily operations. We continuously improve our biodiversity policies and environmental management and protection practices to promote harmony between people and nature. Based on the impact categories described in “Nature's Assets—Why Biodiversity is Good for Business,” we assess operational impacts across five dimensions—land-use change, climate change, pollution, overdevelopment and invasive species—and identify conservation measures to mitigate them.

* ENN Natural Gas's core businesses do not involve invasive species. We neither introduce non-native species at our operating locations nor spread species to other regions through product sales.

Zhoushan LNG Terminal Biodiversity Restoration Project

ENN Zhoushan LNG Terminal is located west of Zhoushan Fishing Ground. Its favorable geographic and hydrological conditions make the area a suitable habitat for the reproduction and growth of many fish species. ENN places great importance on biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of biological resources in nearby waters and has established a dedicated team to implement ecological protection measures. By replenishing commercially valuable aquatic juveniles in the waters around the terminal, we improve fishery biomass and population structure and effectively mitigate the ecological impact of construction on surrounding waters, supporting our biodiversity conservation goals.

Biodiversity conservation in the Wangjiata Mine subsidence area

Wangjiata Coal Mine, part of our energy production business, faces ecological challenges including land degradation, wetland damage and a shortage of biological resources. Based on scientific research and planning, ENN has restored vegetation and improved terrain and waterways to prevent soil erosion, expand wetland areas and create a natural wetland ecosystem. We have introduced filtration systems and irrigation networks to use natural water resources and treated wastewater efficiently. Through ecological transformation of agricultural and forestry resources, we have developed demonstration farmland and livestock farms. These measures have improved the local industrial structure, increased local herders' income and created a sustainable positive cycle between the company and the local community.

Wastewater Treatment VOCs Control Project

To reduce ozone and PM2.5 precursor emissions, Xinneng Energy investigated, assessed and initiated a project to control VOCs (volatile organic compounds) on open wastewater treatment surfaces in accordance with GB37822-2019 and GB31571-2015. The project uses an integrated process of alkaline washing, biological treatment and adsorption. Third-party testing shows annual reductions of approximately 20,790 tonnes of non-methane total hydrocarbons and 11.8 tonnes of hydrogen sulfide, with odor concentration and other indicators meeting more than 50% of the applicable national standards.
